Project Overview
Underwater photographers capture countless marine species photos but often don't know the species names, while researchers lack photos for their studies. The Marine Species Database serves as a bridge — photographers upload photos, then researchers and community classifiers work together to identify species. The platform is fully custom-built on WordPress, using Alpine.js for a smooth real-time filtering experience with category tabs, tag filters, and keyword search. It integrates Uploadcare for handling bulk photo uploads and features a community classification voting mechanism with species geographic heatmaps, accumulating over 8,000 members and 12,000 marine species photos.
